Help Needed for Lifesaving Relocation of Families

We have all heard of the war in Ukraine and seen the pictures on the news, but have you heard that not only does Toledo have families from Ukraine today, but that we have the privilege of building friendships with some of these dear families here at WFI. They are very kind but also very overwhelmed with so many new things – from language to food to poor public transportation to different American traditions.

I had the privilege to ask a lady from Ukraine what was hard about America and what she liked. She shared how the language speed was so fast and how challenging it is that almost everything here requires one’s own ability to drive to get around, rather than everything being close together so that you can walk, bike or take convenient public transportation.

But when I asked what she liked – she said she liked the people. She appreciated how kind the people have been. Another Ukrainian I spoke with shared how he did not know if his home had been looted or what had been destroyed but for now would have to do his best, along with his wife to make a new life here. I sensed both joy and sadness mixed together.

But at the same time, there are many families waiting to come here, and the list is growing. Some have had to flee to neighboring countries, others to different parts of Ukraine and others are asking to come to Toledo.

While this is sobering, there is also encouraging opportunities to help be the hands and feet of Jesus today. Water for Ishmael has further information about 3 different ways you can help. From being a Welcomer to providing financial help to joining a sponsor circle. You can do one or all 3!
